Overview
ESG reporting is a retrieval problem wearing a compliance costume: the useful answer sits across internal knowledge bases, public regulatory text, and the open web, and the dangerous answer is a fluent paragraph with no trail.
I contributed the orchestration layer — which source to query, how to combine results, when to fall back to web search — inside a consulting delivery team. Client data stewardship and any formal reporting sign-off were not mine.
Problem
Teams needed to assemble ESG-related answers from mixed stores without treating a general-purpose chatbot as the system of record.
Approach
A capability sketch, not a vendor architecture: selected knowledge bases, regulatory sources, light knowledge-graph parsing where it helped, and web search as a bounded tool rather than an unbounded browse. Exact dates and stack details stay off this stealth page.
Tradeoffs and limitations
Orchestration across sources is only as good as the allow-list. Web search improves coverage and increases the chance of pulling in something that looks authoritative and is not. Evaluation against real filings cannot be shown here.
